The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced the conclusions of its investigation into alleged kidnapping cases in the coastal region. Out of 43 reported incidents, only one was confirmed as an actual abduction.
According to the ministry’s spokesperson, Noureddine Al-Baba, a special committee carried out inquiries in four governorates: Latakia, Tartous, Homs, and Hama. The team reviewed official records and conducted interviews with affected women and girls, as well as their families.
The Ministry of Interior treats every report or suspicion of kidnapping with the utmost seriousness, committed to protecting Syrian citizens—especially women and other vulnerable groups—and upholding their right to security.
Al-Baba urged residents to avoid spreading rumours and to confirm information before sharing it. He reiterated that the Ministry welcomes reports through its official communication channels and expressed gratitude to coastal communities for their cooperation with investigators.
The inquiry across Syria’s coastal governorates revealed that most reported kidnappings were false, reaffirming the Ministry’s active role in ensuring citizen safety.
