The Indian Heaven Premier League (IHPL), a T20 cricket tournament held in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, has run into serious trouble. The event features players from local, national, and international teams but is currently in turmoil.
Several players remain stuck at a local hotel, unable to leave, while reports indicate that the tournament organisers have fled the region. The chaos reportedly began after multiple players refused to participate in matches due to unpaid wages, disrupting the event.
The tournament was organised by the Mohali-based Yuva Society and reportedly promoted by the J&K Sports Council. The council's secretary, Nuzhat Gul, was present at the opening ceremony and initial matches.
“Officially, this league has nothing to do with the government or Sports Council. They had booked Bakhshi stadium for the matches and paid for that,” said Nuzhat Gul.
Regarding her attendance and promotion of the league, she added, “I can get invites from anyone… that doesn’t prove any association or impact my credibility in any way.”
The IHPL's organisers have abandoned the tournament amid allegations of unpaid dues, leaving players stranded and causing the Sports Council to distance itself from the event.
