Wear a red poppy this Remembrance Day

RSL Victoria encourages everyone to buy a red poppy ahead of Remembrance Day, observed on Monday, 11 November 2024. This day marks the anniversary of the 1918 Armistice, which ended World War I fighting with Germany.

Remembrance Day Services

Services will be held at 11am across Ararat, Willaura, and Lake Bolac to commemorate the occasion. Every year, millions observe a moment of silence at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

The Symbolism of the Red Poppy

The red poppy, known as the "Flower of Remembrance," was among the first flowers to bloom on the battlefields of northern France and Belgium following the conflict. Australia adopted the poppy in 1921 to honour those who died and support the living.
