A remarkable poppy-themed art installation will take center stage at St Editha’s Church this Remembrance Sunday, created by Maureen, a 76-year-old tenant at Tamworth’s Annandale sheltered housing scheme. Assisted by her daughter and granddaughter, Maureen crafted a stunning tribute symbolizing remembrance and community spirit.
Intergenerational Project and Community Involvement
The display was developed in the communal lounge of Annandale, where Maureen, with support from her family and the Scheme Manager of Tamworth Borough Council, transformed the space into a creative hub. The installation features numerous handcrafted poppies, each representing the courage, sacrifice, and service of those who have given so much.
Maureen’s tribute holds a special personal significance, reflecting her own time in service.
Commemoration and Recognition
The art will be proudly exhibited at the entrance of St Editha’s Church, and Maureen will accompany the Mayor of Tamworth during the Remembrance Sunday service.
