Craig Melvin, co-anchor of the “TODAY” show, visited his hometown, Columbia, to film a special segment showcasing his roots and experiences. The segment is scheduled to air in November.
During his visit, Melvin toured significant spots from his early life. He walked down the stairs of his preschool and into the same room where he learned to read, a moment that overwhelmed him with emotion. He described this as the highlight of his trip.
Melvin fondly reminisced about the people and places he cherishes in the Midlands.
“Columbia is just such a warm hug for me every time I go back,” Melvin said.
Almost a year after replacing Hoda Kotb as co-anchor, Melvin shared insights on the challenges and adjustments he’s faced.
“Taking a seat in the co-anchor’s chair has meant taking on a whole new realm of responsibility,” he said.
He described 2025 as a year of constant activity — traveling to multiple cities, attending fundraisers, hosting town halls, participating in luncheons, and promoting the show, all while continuing his reporting work.
“You don't just host the show, you're not just one of the pieces of the show,” Melvin explained.
His dedication to engaging with fans and managing a demanding schedule highlights his commitment to his role.
