The 2025 Miss Universe pageant in Thailand has been marked by significant tension, prompting Nawat Itsaragrisil, vice president for Asia and Oceania of the Miss Universe Organisation (MUO) and head of the local organising committee, to apologise to the contestants during the Live Opening Ceremony on November 5.
“Everybody knows the past few days have been a lot of pressure. I think you must understand that the pressure is a lot. But I have not intended to harm anyone,” Nawat said.
He expressed respect for all participants and offered a sincere apology for any discomfort caused:
“I respect all of you. But I have to say that I am so sorry that it happened. I want to offer this opportunity to apologise to the delegates if anyone was not comfortable with what happened. I’m sorry.”
Nawat also extended apologies to global fans of the pageant:
“I am sorry for the Miss Universe fans around the world.”
The controversy began on November 4 when Nawat publicly shamed Miss Universe Mexico, Fatima Bosch, during a live broadcast. This prompted reigning Miss Universe, Victoria Kjær Theilvig, along with several other contestants, to walk out in solidarity with Miss Mexico.
In response, the MUO issued a statement reaffirming their dedication to collaboration:
The organisation emphasized its commitment to the smooth continuation of the pageant despite the recent challenges.
Nawat Itsaragrisil apologised for the pressure and incident involving Miss Mexico at Miss Universe 2025, as the MUO works to maintain unity and success amidst tensions.
