The British actress Aimee Lou Wood has publicly criticized her fellow The White Lotus star, Sydney Sweeney, regarding Sweeney's participation in a contentious American Eagle campaign accused of having racist undertones.
Sydney Sweeney, 28, recently addressed the backlash over an ad campaign titled "Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans." In a new interview clip shared by renowned photographer Misan Harriman, Sweeney downplayed the criticism the campaign received.
Misan Harriman, a Nigerian-born British photographer known for working with celebrities such as Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Rihanna, and Tom Cruise, condemned Sydney’s reaction.
"Presuming that you are not a white supremacist, at least say how horrified you were by how this campaign was amplified and celebrated by unrepentant racists who believe in eugenics," Harriman wrote.
"At least recognise the harm your jeans campaign has caused black folk. The undertone of the campaign is that your genetics are superior to others - the play on words is clear as day and racists LOVED it!
So, presuming you didn’t know when you shot it, you certainly do now, and it matters."
Aimee Lou Wood expressed her disapproval following Harriman’s post, joining the broader criticism of the campaign’s implicit racial messaging and its impact.
The controversy centers on the implication that the campaign promoted genetic superiority, which many viewed as racially insensitive, with both Aimee Lou Wood and Misan Harriman calling for accountability from Sydney Sweeney.
This dispute highlights ongoing concerns over racial sensitivity in advertising and the responsibility of public figures to recognize the impact of their endorsements.
