On its Tuesday night episode, "The Daily Show" host Jordan Klepper satirized Andrew Cuomo's last campaign tactic as the former New York governor vies to win against mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani.
Klepper described Cuomo's effort as “bizarre,” highlighting the former governor's use of his 1996 Ford Bronco, a vehicle that closely resembles the one O.J. Simpson famously drove during the 1994 police chase.
“The only man with a chance of perhaps beating Mamdani is Andrew Cuomo, former New York governor, and mayoral candidate most likely to tell the Statue of Liberty she has a hell of an ass.”
He noted that Cuomo, after losing the primary to Mamdani, is now running as an independent, contrasting Cuomo’s campaign style with Mamdani’s presence in local clubs.
“After having lost the primary to Mamdani, he is now running as an independent… Mamdani is out there in da clubs, I assume, Cuomo’s final campaign pitch is da serious and da policy-driven.”
The show then featured a clip titled “The Good Luck Truck,” where Cuomo claims that his mid-’90s Ford Bronco is “an oldie, but it is a goodie” and a symbol of his hope to win the election.
Klepper expressed disbelief at the choice of vehicle for a final campaign appeal:
“A white, mid-’90s, Ford Bronco? Isn’t that O.J.’s car?”
The audience erupted in laughter, underscoring the awkward parallel between Cuomo’s car and a vehicle linked to a notorious criminal case.
Cuomo’s unusual campaign strategy of leveraging his Ford Bronco, eerily similar to O.J. Simpson’s infamous car, drew sharp satire highlighting the desperate nature of his run against Zohran Mamdani.
