The Los Angeles Lakers closed the game on a decisive 21–10 run, overcoming a nine-point deficit midway through the fourth quarter. Luka Doncic once again starred, scoring 35 points, dishing 13 assists, grabbing nine rebounds, and recording five steals as the Lakers edged the San Antonio Spurs 118–116 on Wednesday night, their fifth consecutive victory.
San Antonio nearly stole the game in the final seconds after Marcus Smart committed an inbound violation following Kelly Olynyk’s putback with 1.2 seconds left. Justin Champagnie drew a foul from Jake LaRavia on the next play while attempting to tip in the inbound pass.
“Champagnie missed his first free throw, and no one was able to convert the rebound after the second,” ESPN reported.
Deandre Ayton supported the Lakers with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Doncic added eight points in the final quarter, including a key 3-pointer with 2:31 remaining to put Los Angeles ahead for good.
Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs with 19 points and eight rebounds before fouling out with 1:39 left. Stephon Castle and Jeremy Sochan each scored 16 points, as San Antonio dropped its second consecutive game after opening the season 5–0.
Despite shooting just 9-of-27 from the field, Doncic’s vision and timely scoring proved decisive in a whistle-heavy contest that saw both Harrison Barnes and Sochan foul out. The Lakers held the Spurs without a field goal for nearly four and a half minutes down the stretch, seizing full control of the game.
Luka Doncic’s all-around brilliance fueled the Lakers’ comeback triumph over the Spurs, clinching their fifth straight win in a tense, foul-filled matchup.
