Late on Wednesday night, Birmingham witnessed violent disorder as groups of youths threw fireworks at police officers. West Midlands Police reported at least four teenage boys were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and taken into custody.
Authorities seized weapons following attacks on officers in the Dale End area. The police described the situation as dangerous, with fireworks being ignited amid assaults on both officers and members of the public.
"Disorder involving young people saw fireworks released in a dangerous manner, as member of the public and our officers were attacked."
The police emphasized that such chaos would not be tolerated.
Despite police efforts, further disturbances continued into Thursday morning, especially around Staniforth Street. Hundreds of youths were seen rampaging, throwing fireworks, while police vehicles and officers arrived on the scene to restore order.
Videos shared on social media show masked youths clashing through the early hours, lighting flares and attacking police and each other. Scenes include groups in dark clothing gathering near an underpass, with fireworks firing down the street as people fled.
"Fireworks could be seen shooting down the street as people ran through the road."
