Harden played Somerset between 1985 and 1998, plus for Yorkshire in 1999-2000, with stints in New Zealand. He later moved to the country, manages a financial planning business. He is married to Rachel Reese, whom he helped campaign for Nelson mayor, and they wed in 2017; the couple have three children from prior marriages.
