McLaren arrive at the Singapore Grand Prix under pressure after a tough stretch of races. Team principal Andrea Stella acknowledged the MCL40 lost performance following the latest updates, and the team owned the problem for a recurring problem affecting Lando Norris.
Norris described a straight-line speed deficit as painful and said he was doubtful the team could address it before Marina Bay.
A tyre strategy call during the Malaysian Grand Prix, which saw Oscar Piastri pitted under controversial conditions, was later characterised by the team as an incorrect judgement. Singapore's slow and unforgiving street track is considered a poor fit for the car in its present state, adding to the pressure on McLaren going into the race weekend.
