Prime Minister Mark Carney has called urgent national byelections for three Canadian seats. Voters in Brantford-Brant, Ontario; Châteauguay-Lacolle, Quebec; and Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke, British Columbia will vote on August 31. Campaigning is now under way, with national parties selecting candidates and finalising strategies. The Conservatives have vowed to press for federal probes on two key issues: construction oversight of the Gordie Howe bridge and Washington’s threatened tariff measures.
